The dry river bed of the Rio Pirai. The river fluctuates wildly in its size - some parts of the year it is as wide as the Mississippi, other months its nothing more than a creek. When its particularly low and dry, construction companies come in and extract large amounts of sand from the riverbed. You can see their extraction sites in the background.
